Yesterday, my sons and I spotted a lone goose perched high on our neighbor’s roof. It was a cold, grey day with thunderstorms rolling in, yet there it stood—unbothered, as if the rain-soaked world belonged entirely to it.
Watching it, I realized that life is a lot like that goose. You don’t just stand when the ground is level and the sun is out. You stand in the rain. You stand in places where others think you don’t belong. You stand even when your surroundings feel odd, different, or uncomfortable.
The key is to keep your footing no matter where you find yourself—whether you are in the valley of a low point or perched on the peak of a rooftop. Life is complex and beautifully unexpected, but the only way through is to stay upright. We’re holding onto that lesson today.
