keep imagining. Two letters have taken over the world, and everyone has already agreed on what they mean. A. I. Artificial. Intelligence. Something built by other hands, trained on other people’s words, arriving whether we asked for it or not.
Letters answer to whoever calls them
But letters are obedient things. They answer to whoever calls them.
So everyday I call these two something else. Action Impact. Aligned Improvement. Active Imagination. Adventure Insights. Same two letters. Different life.
The same fire that burns the house cooks the yam. The same river that drowns a man also carries his boat home. Nothing powerful arrives to us already sorted into treasure and junk. That sorting is our work. It is small. It is daily. It is the whole practice.
A partner, not a pilot
Here on Storm and Star, we do not use AI to think for us. We use it to think with us. It holds the outline while I hold the ache. It remembers the citation while I remember why the study mattered. It organizes the grant while I sit with the mother in Lagos whose daughter the grant is actually for.
A student came to me last term convinced she had nothing left to say. Her draft was clean and empty. I asked her one question: what did you survive to learn this? She talked for eleven minutes. We fed those eleven minutes back into the machine and asked it only to hold the shape. The words stayed hers. The grief stayed hers. What she had been missing was never the tool. It was the handing over.
The daily practice, in three moves
- Name it first. Before you open anything, say out loud what you are making. Adventure Insights. Aligned Improvement. Naming decides direction, and direction decides the day.
- Feed it something true. Your own voice memo. Your own messy paragraph. Your own question at 5 a.m. A partner cannot help you carry what you never handed over.
- Keep the human part. The grief. The joke. The proverb your grandmother said with her hand on your head. No machine can manufacture what only you survived.
Ten minutes. That is all it costs. Do it tomorrow, and the tomorrow after that, and watch what stops leaking out of you.
Why this matters now
Life is about to get complicated. Attention will become the scarcest thing any of us owns. Most people will quietly hand over their imagination and call it efficiency. A few of us will keep ours, and those few will soar.
I want to raise leaders like that. Students, daughters, scientists, founders who understand that the same machine flooding the world with junk can also help one woman finish the sentence that saves a life.
Storms teach us. Stars guide us. Tools do neither on their own. A tool only amplifies whichever one you were already following. So choose in the morning, before the noise, while the house is still quiet.
Keep imagining. Then go and name your two letters.
If this is the practice you want for your own days, start where everyone starts. Keep One Day is free, and it is one page, and it is enough.
Keep this.
