I recently watched the Superman documentary and these thoughts came to mind worth keeping.
When Christopher Reeve first starred as Superman, he was asked, ‘What is a hero?’ At the time, he believed a hero was someone who acts courageously without thinking twice about the consequences.
But after a horse-riding accident left him paralyzed, his definition of heroism shifted. He came to see heroes as ordinary people who find the strength to persevere and endure despite insurmountable challenges.
Here are the 3 key points I am taking from this:
- Courage isn’t just about grand actions: Initially, he believed heroism was about bold acts without a second thought.
- Perspective changes everything: A life-altering accident shifted his view, and he saw heroism in a new light.
- Heroism is about resilience: Now he defined heroes as ordinary people who find strength to persevere in the face of overwhelming adversity.
It’s may seem small but these thoughts are worth keeping considering the true story of Superman, considering what he actually went through, how his definition of hero’s changed all because of a shift in perspective. Many of us don’t see our lives changing as drastic as his did but what questions do you still have about life? How are they different from your views yesterday or tomorrow? Are grand actions enough? Will they still matter when your perspective shifts? What keeps you going against all odds? I’m keeping all this here not because I have answers but as a reminder to myself to remember that perspectives shift always and how you endure, how you preserve against all odds are the life experiences worth keeping.
