Keep your game, your system!

I am learning that there are games we can’t play. Some stacked against us so that the only option left is to simply not play. You can choose to play a different game. One where you simply observe how the games are being played and maybe hope that one day, soon enough, you will be called to come play the game. This life though isn’t fair and since the only thing left are the moments we have, I am learning instead to play my own game. Of course it will be small, many will not understand and the motives will be unclear but it’s my game and since I live for moments, I am choosing to play it my way.

Seth Godin in his blog post yesterday here called this building your own system. For 5 years, I have been writing here just so that I leave something about a day somewhere. I will admit that his blog was an inspiration but also life and being a mother to adorable kids while working so hard non stop to get tenure on my terms. We did in 9 years and with 4 children all under 10 at that time all because we played our own game. September is always a time of reckoning, a reminder of sorts, that your way, no matter how tough or difficult it may seem, is all you need. Spend time playing the games you value, those you love too, maybe not for the world, but for these moments you call life.

And yes these were life lessons I wrote while making our Sunday jollof rice. The lessons too from the making of this rice session is at the heart of my upcoming talk on leadership here. Join us.
