Dead trees don’t produce fruits,
but some fruits on dead trees,
stay green.

My kids and I walked by branches from a tree dead. My daughter noted that dead trees often do not produce fruits, yet these branches were full of fruits still green. It got me wondering, how are we staying green in a season when things seem so dead. How are we remaining like these fruits, alive, and green when everything around us seems so dead and gone. The idea of staying green weighs heavily on my mind as the new school year slowly begins. We are in a season where grant writing especially writing NIH grants seems so daunting and perhaps final with every new rule or changes being carried out. It’s so hard to be optimistic about carrying out research when the source for funding the research seems so long gone and never to return. This image from our walk is the peace I didn’t know I needed. Things will seem and feel dead, but if you are the fruits of his heart, then stay green. There is no other way.
