Keep these moments of wonder!

I saw an old picture recently and I looked at the girl intently. She wore a pink shirt, loosely buttoned. Her hair in braids, seemingly old. She had a twinkle in her eyes, with lips curved up in a smile. And there was wonder and love, plus beauty and awe in eyes sparkling with excitement and amazement.

I wondered whether she paused to think about all she encountered. Did she persists in discovering more about life and all things that elicited joy? Or was she unsatisfied with things that lacked no joy, repeated things, followed by closed thoughts, that elicit no awe.

Either way, may these eyes we see, these ones staring back at us, stay open through life. May they be open to new experiences, eager to new insights, with a desire to understand, a willingness to suspend doubts, even as it thinks, sees, and lives this life again filled with a desire to know the unknown, as well as the already known.

The world would be full of struggles, the eyes seemed to say. Full. But still, no matter the paths you take, you got the world. There is wonder in your eyes. I can see it, still looking…
