Nearly 15 years after becoming an NIH predoctoral scholar, it brings me great joy to pass the baton to my doctoral student, Onyekachukwu Anikamadu, MPH, CPH, the latest NIH predoctoral scholar in town.
What is mentoring? To me these days is ensuring that those entrusted to your care get to live out their dreams their own way. Will we struggle. Yes. I can assure you for your dreams the road won’t be easy.
What many do not know was that Onyeka dropped everything at our prior institution to join me amidst so much questions and uncertainty. To see her rewarded at the eve of our transition makes it all worth it.
Keep knowing your worth and surround yourself with those who see it even when the road ahead seems uncertain. I pray you struggle for when you succeed, you will see that the struggle was an opportunity to begin the journey towards your dreams. Congratulations Onyeka. Your name really is all you need for who is greater than God. No one. You deserve all the good things that comes with now calling yourself an NIH funded predoctoral scholar. Super proud of you.
