When those older than you speak, they do so, not because of the sweetness of words in their mouth, but because they see something, the rest of us, those young, do not see. This new year will find me listening to those older and wiser than me. I intend to stop and listen to all they know that is best for my directions in life. One of them has been at the beginning of my journey when I never even knew there was a journey ahead. The way he helped my stand through 2023 is as remarkable as the most precious jewels.

Whereas many thought they were battling with me, what they forgot was that I had an army of leaders, those older and wiser than me, ready to lead me when I didn’t know which direction to take. They made me stand is ways that can only be described as stunning. Imagine for example a leader in an acting position, going against 2 leaders who actually had the position and experience before. Such was the legion that I had ready and armed for the battle that was 2023. I am prepared now to do more than engage in battle. Prepared to soar to the skies above with them.

I begin this year ready to dream again with them, ready to dance to their tunes with whatever kolanut they bring my way. What I still do not know about the year ahead of me, is greater than me. But I am prepared to listen knowing that academia and all it entails still is like a hot soup. I will take all it brings this year, slowly slowly, beginning from its edges, and with those older and wiser than me. Keep this.
