Keep unlearning learning!

The idea of unlearning intrigues me. Theories, methods, whose words, my words, how to unlearn learning agitates me. There are those who choose to remain as is. Choose their own perspectives or those of others as is. Yet, they forget, other perspectives exist. Those rarely discussed, rarely seen, rarely even known, exists. Yet there is power in knowing there are other ways. So I ask again, how do we unlearn learning. My story is one full of dreams. One where thoughts rarely seen and black as me are visible. That there could be a Black BC’s, in the year 1970, inspires me. Children on swings. One upside down. Another on top and climbing higher. Hair as curly as can be. Skin as black as can be. That it could be written for children, in a style simple and full of depth of feeling, moves me. We could have this freedom. The type that leads from Africa to a Zenith, the highest point for us, uplifts me. Hands black like mine, in peace or a fist, all reaching for the skies and anything beyond, motivates me. Dreams of unlearning learning, like Vesey, whose dreams of freedom still persists, nurtures me. The me of me is seeking new ways to unlearn. Seeking new tools, books, magazines, anything that lets the me of myself, fill the air with dreams like Black BC’s. This small but powerful book is showing the way. Nudging and awakening all of us asleep to begin our way. In the end, it will be the only way. Unlearning how we learn for the children.

From Lucille Clifton’s The Black BCs. This book is light.
